Twelve Days of Shopping Fairview – Day 10

Updated September 9, 2017: Paint It Yourself ceased operations since this blog was originally published.

On the tenth “shop Fairview” day… Still stuck on what to get Nana for Christmas? We’ve got the perfect (and we do mean perfect) gift idea.  Take the kids to Paint it Yourself (P.I.Y.) at 21450 Lorain Road, let them pick out an unadorned ceramic piece from hundreds of choices, six paint colors from the palette of 40+, and a seat at one of the paper-covered tables–and then let them have at it. They can get ideas for their masterpieces from the already-finished items on display, or they can go rogue and let their creative forces take over. If they need guidance, P.I.Y. owners Jessica and Charles Walker are there to help.

“Two big things make us different from other similar studios,” says Jessica. “One, you can take your piece home from P.I.Y.  the same day you paint it because we finish it with a sealing glaze rather than a kiln fire. You can walk out with your piece in 30 minutes. Two, we don’t charge a separate studio fee—everything’s included.” According to Jessica, P.I.Y.’s unfinished pieces range from $5-$40 (most are between $14-$20) and selections include everything from ballerinas to pirates, jewelry boxes to football helmets, motorcycles to Sock Monkeys, unicorns to switch plates . . . you get the idea. The kids will have a blast and you know Nana will be touched by their hand-crafted gifts.

P.I.Y. also hosts children’s birthday parties at $20 per child (BYOC—Bring Your Own Cupcakes), as well as birthday, bridal, holiday and other you-name-the-occasion parties for grown-ups (BYOB—yep!). Jessica even has a scaled-down version of P.I.Y. that she takes to local nursing homes, where residents benefit from brain stimulation as well as lots of colorful fun.

P.I.Y. is located at 21450 Lorain Rd. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday noon to 8pm and Sundays noon to 6.. Call 216/800-4749, visit their website or stop by for more details.
